Planning electrical items in a bedroom can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be, a simple basic installation would typically consist of a 1-way switching configuration, a lighting pendant and 2-3 double sockets but you may wish to go for a higher specification installation and add, USB socket outlets, 2 & 3 way switching configurations, wall light & downlights.
Sockets
The UK average for socket quantity’s in bedrooms is 2-4 depending on the size, shape & furniture layout. When planning positions consider having a double socket at either side of the bed for items such as lamps and phone charges, you may wish to upgrade these for USB sockets this will help free up the 3 pin outlets for other items. Allow for a socket in each corner of the bedroom for other electrical items such as the TV, computers, lamps and other electrical items. If you have a dressing table or desks it's worth adding sockets close to them for easy access and avoid running cables across the room. Will you be putting a TV in your bedroom? If so you may wish to add a high-level socket and potentially a TV or satellite point this again will give a clean look to the bedroom without unsightly cables hanging from the TV.
Telephone and Internet Points
On many of our large rewire projects our customers often use smaller bedrooms or box rooms as offices and if the property consists of a ground, first and second floor you can install the internet router in the box room on the first floor to boost the signal on the 2nd floor, to do this you will need to install an additional internet point so consider WIFI strength when planning additional points the more central the better.
Lighting and Switches
A lighting pendant, downlights and wall lights are commonly used in bedroom lighting. A single centralised pendant is the most commonly found in UK homes. Wall lights at either side of the bed can be convenient for night time reading and also feel homely, we can also install light switches at the side of your bed that control either just the wall lights or all of the lights in the bedroom. Down-lights can also be installed to give additional lighting they also make a great feature if you are looking for a higher specification installation.
