Speak to many electrical contractors in our industry and they’ll reel off a long list of their electrical services from fire alarms to additional lighting, security alarms, additional sockets & power supplies, electrical testing, door entry systems, fuse board change & emergency lighting covering all sectors domestic, commercial & industrial and although the variety is good we believe you cannot provide the best services if you're range of services are so varied.
Here at Smart Electricians we believe that laser focusing all our energy to our essential services in our specified sector will only increase the quality of service that our customers receive. Yes we can do the commercial works and yes we can do industrial work but our goal is to focus our time, energy and effort into the domestic market by doing so we broke our business services down into four key areas.
- Emergency call out and minor works.
- Electrical installation condition reports ‘EICR’s’
- Consumer unit upgrade.
- Full and partial rewires.
Our time is laser focused on these 4 services so that our Customers always get a five star service and our staff are trained to the highest standard providing services they specialise in.

1.Emergency call out Minor works: (Hourly rate service)
We provide a callout service for all of the smaller jobs or emergency situations. Our call out charge is £60+vat per hour for the first hour then an hourly rate of £35+vat per hour for any preceding hours. We will give you an estimated duration of the works along with a rough guide on the total cost of work including any additional materials cost.
2. Electrical installation condition reports. (Fixed price service)
If you’re buying or selling your property then a EICR is essential document that you will need.Or if you simply want to know the current condition of it of your existing property. But the EICR service is the essential Industry recognised report. The EICR is an 8 page document highlighting any hazards or defects within the electrical installation the 8 page report also comes with a quotation to rectify any defects from the regulations BS7671 and will highlight how we will get the installation to meet current safety standards. We typically schedule 4Hours for this service and we have allocated time slots of 8:30AM & 12:30pm. This is a fixed price service at £180 +vat for the main consumer unit, additional charges may apply for additional consumer units or consumer units with more than 12 circuits.
3. Consumer unit upgrades. (Survey of property required)
Consumer units or more traditionally known ‘fuse boxes’ are the hub of your electrical wiring system in domestic property. Each circuit should have its own independent isolation circuit breaker and the majority of circuits should be RCD protected. Unfortunately due to the age of some consumer units and many changes to the wiring regulations, 70% of uk consumer units are outdated, have no our RCD protection and do not meet current regulations.. Smart Electricians offer a consumer upgrade service. It’s a common misconception that if the consumer unit is old that the whole property would need rewiring is often not the case and often we can bring electrical installation up to meet current regulations by upgrading my consumer unit.
The most common reason for upgrading consumer unit are as follows off or fuse box.
- You are having additional work done to your property i.e. a new kitchen and the new socket layout require RCD protection this will mean you need to upgrade your consumer unit.
- You know that your consumer unit is dated and you want the peace of mind that you and your family are safe in your property.
- You are selling your property and you want your current installation to be up-to-date to avoid any delays in the sale of the property.
- You have a property that you are planning on renting out and you need a consumer unit upgrade so that your property meets the current rental market standards.
Before upgrading any consumer unit we need to undertake some essential checks to your electrical installation, this would typically be done by undertaken EICR. Once you have determined that the electrical installation Meet regulations then we can go ahead and remove the old consumer unit and replace with new. Once the new consumer unit is installed test and Certify the installation giving you a certificate that covers the installation for the next 5 years for a rental property or 10 years for a privately owned property.
I'll consumer unit upgrade prices start from £450 plus VAT. Survey the property will need to be undertaken before issuing the final quote.
4. Full and partial rewires. (Online rewire calculator & survey of property)
Full rewire or new build electrical installations are a fundamental part of our company.
We offer a very unique and individual service where our customers can produce their own online rewire calculations.
These calculations are determined by the quantity of sockets lighting switch and accessories that you require in your house so this can be altered to suit your budget and specification. Once you have completed your rewire calculator one of our team will be in touch to organise a survey of your property. We will walk around your property with you and determine exactly how many sockets and switches you require and what is and what is not achievable for your budget.
